About the role

The position offers the opportunity of providing strategic leadership and oversight to the product team with the aim of developing and managing robust Product plan, achieving Product delivery, commercial targets, and driving growth through new businesses for the constantly changing environment in which Oxford University Press operates. The Product Director engages with key stakeholders to develop, drive, and implement the company’s growth strategies and oversees the development and execution of the product plan to ensure delivery on time and on budget.

The Product Director is also involved in preparing and implementing strategic and financial plans and monitoring the progress of these plans to ensure the Press attains its mission and objectives as successfully as possible. The role involves exploring business opportunities, growing and maintaining profitable publishing for local markets, planning, designing and implementing print and electronic publishing programmes, and directing the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that the Press complies with all legal, copyright, and other statutory regulations. The Product Director also develops strong rapport with authors, partners, Ministries, and other stakeholders affecting the business while embodying the organization’s values and ethical principles.

The position will report to the Managing Director, OUPP.

About you

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Pertinent degree or equivalent experience in a professionally managed organization and handling a team in a senior managerial capacity.
  • Significant experience in progressively responsible leadership roles in professional organizations including leading transformation and change to deliver better outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of the educational publishing sector including Schools, Higher Education Institutions and Trade is desirable.
  • Experience of developing product and business strategy desirable.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong business acumen along with knowledge of financial, commercial, and business processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations.
  • Strong problem-solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • Demonstrated skills at managing operations and developing procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies.
  • Track record of recruiting, developing and managing a high performing team.
  • Willingness to travel as per business need.
